FSC Certified Paper is made from fiber acquired from well-managed forests using virgin pulp. MLI purchases paper from certified sources and they are progressive and environmentally responsible.
Green-e Certified Paper is made using renewable energy sources such as wind power, which create less air pollution and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Carbon Neutral Paper. is produced by manufacturers who zero out their carbon gas emissions by participating in or supporting carbon gas reducing projects.
Chlorine-Free Paper substitutes oxygen-based compounds for chlorine compounds used in the whitening process.
Alternative Papers are made without wood fiber. MLI offers many stocks which are made from materials such as kenaf, hemp, cotton, recovered cotton fiber or denim, flax, bamboo, agricultural by-products, banana fiber, tobacco leaves, coffee beans… and even ground stone.
Recycled Paper reduces logging and benefits forestry management, reduces energy consumption, water usage and landfill space. It is available in various percentages from 10% to 100% and in different finishes.

Print it Green and Mail it Green with MLI
Paper and Substrates MLI offers a wide variety of papers and substrates. We are constantly researching the latest offerings to meet the needs of our clients while contributing to overall environmental well-being. Some of the options we offer for green printing and mailing solutions are shown in the box on the left.
Inks and Chemistry MLI strives to reduce the emission of VOCs (volatile organic compounds), while producing the highest quality printed pieces possible.
We use vegetable-based inks which produce low VOCs and offer eco-friendly soy inks as an option as well.
We use alcohol-free chemistry, which improves air quality.
We use water-based aqueous coatings which are more environmentally-friendly than UV coatings.
We sequence print jobs by ink color, which saves ink changes and ink waste.
Used chemicals and ink waste are stored in containers which are picked up by Environmental Recovery for processing.
Paper used for press set up and “make-ready” is reused when possible and then recycled.
Plant-Wide MLI’s concern for the environment goes beyond our production processes to our entire operation. Other ways we help are:
PDF proofs are e-mailed to clients when possible, saving the paper and ink of traditional hard copy proofs.
Our high resolution digital proofs replace matchprints, and require no chemical processing or heating.
The chemicals from the process of making our printing plates are filtered before disposal and the aluminum plates are recycled after use.
We package our products with biodegradable packaging materials and waste paper instead of petroleum-based foam “peanuts.”
We schedule our local deliveries by setting up routes for maximum efficiency and gas savings.
